Why Buy an Air Bed?

When you are looking to buy an air bed, there are some things you should keep in mind. There are also some brands that have a better reputation than others. In this classic way to slap a bed down on the ground and accommodate more people into your house for the night, in fact there are many things you will have to know in order to make a wise purchase. For instance, price range varies over a wide spectrum, and you don’t want to get caught paying too much for too little or doing the opposite: spending so little money that you get a useless mattress. To help you avoid these common mistakes, as well as to enable you to make a purchase that will far outlast its brethren, I have included various little tips that will be helpful to anyone who is in the market for a high quality air bed at a discount price.

The best part is that you can actually get ones that are queen size so that two people can fit on them. That way if you are inviting over, say, your mom and dad, you can just plunk them down on the air mattress. You don’t even need to spend more than $60 to get a decent one in able to do this. Of course, if guests (especially the same guests) are a regular occurrence at your house then you might want to think about investing a bit more in a higher quality bed, but this is really not necessary. It’s only a nice thing to do if you’ve got the money.

People will also buy air beds in order to use while camping. Although this is a less frequent use, it is probably the second or third most intended solution people have in this category. The whole genius of an air bed is that you can port it around very easily. It will not take up much space in the trunk of your car, van, Winnebago, or truck. Once at the campground, as night starts to dawn, you can just bring the deflated mattress into your tent. Then all you have to do is merely inflate it. Within a matter of minutes you have a bed that all the bears and squirrels (and other campers) will be extremely jealous over. Good job!

If you go the manual route then you will end up spending much more time inflating your air bed. This is not really the most fun activity, and you certainly won’t want to have to leave your guests in order to go blow up a mattress for a half-hour, would you? Most people don’t enjoy this, and it may well be worth your money to make sure you go with the electric pump versions. But don’t worry, it won’t cost you an arm and a leg. Increasingly, more and more air beds are already outfitted with an automatic inflater such as this. In my humble opinion this is almost always the best way to go.

Now we can start to think about price. You can expect to pay anywhere from $30 up to $300 for your new air bed. They obviously run the gamut from very minimal benefits on up to a bed worthy of your own sleep every night. But for most of our purposes we will probably not even consider paying more than $200. The fact is that one of the best rated air mattresses out there costs only about $60 (and it is queen size).

What you want to consider in terms of setting a budget is this: how often do you expect to use it. If you are the type of person who has guests over almost every weekend, then I would really consider some of the higher end Aerobeds. There are other good companies too, but Aerobed just happens to currently be the biggest manufacturer in this space. Because of this scale (and focus) they should be able to compete with anyone else’s offering at the same or lower price. (Of course it always depends on your own personal tastes.)

The basic process always remains the same: if you can try out an air bed that is great. But oftentimes you won’t be able to. Maybe it is not worth your time to go try out the size and feel of one of these inflatable mattresses because you know you’re not going to spend that much money anyway. A lot of people will end up ordering online, because that is where you can typically exert the least effort while still having access to essentially all air bed manufacturers. Regardless, you can rest assured that innovation is continually happening in this industry.
