Using an Air Bed for a Guest

Not everyone has a guest room in their house. Especially with the way the economy is nowadays, many people are having to house their children, parents, etc. in an effort to save money. When they do this they use up their spare bedrooms. But what if you still want to have a guest over now and again? Are you going to make them sleep on your old couch? Or on the floor? Well I certainly hope not. The fact is that there is an easy solution that you can use to house the occasional guest who come through your home. It’s called an air bed.

queen-size-air-bedAn air bed is so convenient. If you get a compact one, which is not very expensive, you can stow it away in your closet until someone actually comes to stay over. When they do, all you have to do is pull it out and inflate it on the ground wherever you want them to sleep. It is easy as pie to schlep upstairs or down, and your friends and relatives will really appreciate that you’ve thought of them beforehand in this manner. I personally applaud you if you do this.

An air bed on the cheaper end of things is really only going to cost you like $50. Of course, you can spend more if you want. There are certainly good reasons to upgrade if you can afford it. But the bottom line still remains that an air bed is way more comfortable than couches, sleeping bags, and whatever other tricks you might have up your sleeve.

One thing to look out for is whether the mattress is an electric or manual pump. You will end up paying much more for an air bed equipped with an electric pump, but it will simultaneously save you a bunch of time and effort. It is certainly not a necessity, but I just thought I’d throw that out there so that you know one of the little hidden tricks to distinguishing between different beds. (If you’ve got kids around, you can always set them to inflating the thing!)

One thing that’s for sure is that nine out of ten guests will be appreciative of having a real bed to sleep on rather than just some makeshift thing. An air bed will be much smoother on their back than something like a couch or floor. And as always, the primary benefit is the ease of storage and low cost of such an option.
