Using an Air Bed for Camping

An air bed is a great addition to all your other camping necessities. Why is that? Well, it’s because the ground is not such a comfortable place to sleep. I shouldn’t have to tell you that! While many people simply will plunk down a sleeping bag or two in order to cushion themselves from the hard surface of the earth, I would much rather sleep on a cushion above the earth.

One great thing about using an air bed when you are on a camping trip is that it is very portable. Now, I am not talking about those high-priced air beds which you would use in your house on a regular basis. No, this is much more a throw it in your car and go type of thing. It will also not really cost that much, under $100 I suspect. Just imagine lying underneath the beautiful stars and moon on an inflatable mattress. It is Heaven. You are really getting the best of both worlds in this scenario.

I know that there are a lot of hard core camping enthusiasts out there who would beg to differ with my preference of bedding material, but in my opinion it’s just another evolution of technology like all other things that campers have come to adopt. They use tents, rifles, pots and pans, and cars to better get their outdoor fix on, so why not add an air bed to the arsenal? To me it just makes common sense.

If you’re like me and your back isn’t as friendly toward its master as it once was, then I would really encourage you to consider investing a bit of money in an air bed. The only other option is to stop camping altogether. Of course, you could keep going out to the woods or the lake and further damaging that most central of body axes, the spine, but why do that? You simply don’t have to anymore. It is way better to sleep on an inflatable mattress. You can inflate it to exactly the comfort preference that you have. If you like it firm then blow it all the way up. If you want some give in the thing, then don’t fill it up all the way.

The bottom line is that air beds were practically made for camping. Aside from entertaining guests it is the second best use of this great invention.
